Posse, Are You Ready? (Vol. II) - a 1979 - 1985 rub-a-dub mix by BMC

Late august this year I dropped my first rub-a-dub mix in a long time: "Posse, Are You Ready? Vol. I". As promised, when there would be enough interest, I'd drop a Vol. II soon. Well, here it is! Got great response to Vol. I that even went to the negative side with someone selling CD's of it on ebay (!!!, and ebay did nothing with my claims to remove it, ahhh, frustrating) and people requesting me to upload the tunes seperately for them to download (forget it, that is so not my intention with these mixes!!!!). Luckily, most response was just positivity on the vibes and the selection.

Vol. II has the exact same recipe as Vol. I: early 80s tunes by a whole variety of singers and deejays and no vocalist appears twice, all tracks taken from vinyl, so expect some crackle and pop here and there. Mix in the usual BMC style: no full tunes, one continuous 60 min. mix with some added soundsamples.

Tracks in order of appearance:

Posse, Are You Ready? (Vol. I) - a 1979 - 1985 rub-a-dub mix by BMC

Been over 3 years since my last mix on 70s/80s reggae, so about time to drop something new again! Here is:

      Posse, Are You Ready?

A mix focussing on what is probably my favourite era of Jamaican music: 1979 - 1985. One hour of pure rub-a-dub niceness. In this first volume (hopefully more to follow!) there's tunes by a whole variety of singers and deejays and no vocalist appears twice. All tracks are taken from vinyl, so expect some crackle and pop here and there. Mix in the usual BMC style: no full tunes, one continuous mix with some added soundsamples, sources of each track given. Check it out and try not to move to this, it wont work!

Drop me a comment if you enjoy the works. If there's enough interest, I'll probably drop a Vol. II and maybe even III soon.

Posse, Are You Ready? - Vol. I

Toyan's How The West Was Won - In The Mix - re-upload

Again, for those that missed it back then here's another re-upload (next to my Purpleman mix) of one of my foundation mixes from 7 years ago (2007) based around a great deejay album from the golden rub-a-dub days. The album in question is ***How The West Was Won*** by (Ranking) Toyan, released in 1981 on the great Greensleeves label. It's a Henry 'Junjo' Lawes production with Soljie Hamilton & Scientist at the controls. Add to that the fabulous Roots Radics for the riddims and you have all ingredients for a wicked album from start to finish. Toyan is one of my favourite deejays of those days and this album is one of the reasons why. What I love especially is the use of riddims from a whole heap of other killer tunes from the era by artists like the Wailing Souls, Michael Prophet, Johnny Osbourne, Barry Brown and Hugh Mundell. For this mix I selected the vocal companions to the tracks Toyan is toasting over on How The West Was Won and mixed them together in album order. No dub-sides were added in this mix, just the vocal and Toyan's deejay version. I have slightly updated the 2007 version on transitions and volume, but it's mostly unchanged. As with all my mixes, no full tunes are used, shorter pieces mixed together, resulting in a lifely mix of 28 minutes of early dancehall niceness. Most, if not all, of these tracks have been repressed on their albums or as singles in recent years, so if you like what you hear, the vinyl shouldn't be too hard to get hold of! All from the incredible Greensleeves catalogue. As always, I've added the source of each track below the tracklist. Go get 'm, nothing beats putting the needle on a nice shiny piece of black vinyl to listen to these tunes. Perfect vibe for these summer months, check it out if you haven't already and enjoy!

Purpleman & Friends A Go Nice Up The Area - re-upload

Since it takes me more and more time to bring new mixes these days and I've had several requests for re-uploads of some of my older ones, I figured lets start with that. First one is a mix I did 5 years ago (2009) and one I'm still very pleased with! It's focussing on the works of none other than Purpleman! Purpleman recently joined Facebook and is doing good by the looks of it, find him there. This mix was/is called Purpleman A Go Nice Up The Area with Purpleman alongside singers like Don Carlos and Barry Brown on the same riddims. I've slightly updated the mix on some transitions and effects volume (lowered) and for this occassion added two additional tracks that were not in the original 2009 edition since I got the Purpleman 45 in question after making the mix at the time: Level Vibes Pumping. So worth checking even if you already heard the 2009 edition. Original artwork above and adapted write up from 2009 and updated track- and sourcelist as follows:
Purpleman is sometimes confused with Yellowman due to their looks, but also because Purpleman even released an album under the name Yellowman (Confessions, Vista, 1983). He also recorded under the name Peter Yellow, but that period isn't covered here cause I don't own those records myself. Wicked deejay, clearly different from Yellowman (which makes it easy to hear that that Confessions album certainly isn't thé Yellowman) and had most of his recordings in the early 80s. I don't own many singles by Purpleman, but I do however have a few albums by him, which are the main source for the tracks here (see credits below). His discography isn't very big, but overall quality very good. It was fun finding out how many tunes he toasts on that were voiced by Don Carlos! Already 7 in this mix alone! Also a couple of Barry Brown tunes appear, from Hitbound releases - the Show Down series. Wicked music, hope you'll enjoy and if you don't know the man I hope that you'll hear and get to know him through this mix and start appreciate the works of the one PURPLEMAN as much as I do!
