MIX: People's Choice - BMC's 2006 / 2007 transition mix - part 1

With the year 4 months on the way, it's about time for some 2007 released tunes in the mix. Here are some, still in combination with some very nice 2006 releases, showing quality releases again in 2007. Jamaican and European productions and a variety of singers and styles. Had to include Buju's big hit Driver on the classic Taxi riddim in one of the mixes, so here it is alongside a nice Pinchers and a Capleton, who adresses the issue of feuds between artists like Kartel & Movado, Idonia & Busy Signal and Beenie & Bounty. Next up a German produced heavy roots riddim called Oneness with established artists Luciano and Lutan Fyah next to upcoming singer Alborosie and the, to me, unknown Conscious Fiyah. The well received and big tune People's Choice by Ray Darwin over the Mean Girl riddim is up next followed by another foundation riddim relicked by the Big Yard camp: Solomon. A singing Shaggy, Iceman, Brian & Tony Gold, General Degree and Richie Stephens take care of the Solomon part in this mix. Another foundation riddim, Movie Star, here relicked on the France-based Soul Vybz label, with contributions from singjay Junior Kelly and singers Lukie D and Chezidek is followed by a new Burro Banton tune which should be played with bass open! The Serengeti riddim on Delly Ranks' Pure Music label is a lovely 2007 roots riddim here represented by a wicked Da'Ville, Chino and rather unknown Sadiki followed by the sweet Let Them Talk riddim on Broken Stick with Luciano, Ras Mac Bean, Louie Culture and Lorenzo. The big hit On My Mind from Da'Ville and Turbulence's Ital Stew on the Cuss Cuss riddim give way to the classic Six Babylon riddim from Linval Thompson, who's original track is partly voiced over by Fantan Mojah here after which Lutan Fyah ends the mix with his take on the riddim. As usual, if you enjoy one or more of these tunes, I encourage you to get the 45 or CD; I think most are still available from the many online stores (African Beat, OJ36records, soundquake, Ernie B).
